Physical Fitness plays a very large role in Sea Cadets. You either need to be physically fit or be willing to get fit! Why is it so important to the program? Because physical fitness isn’t emphasized in schools anymore and we believe in promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Every drill weekend include at least an hour of physical fitness training
- Several time each year a cadet will be tested on an age-adjusted Physical Readiness Test (PRT)
- In order to make rank, a cadet must pass the PRT.
- To graduate from Recruit Training (boot camp) a cadet must pass the PRT.
- To attend trainings a cadet must pass a PRT.
As you can see, it’s important to the program! We encourage all cadets to develop their own exercise regimens at home between drills which should include: Push-ups, Sit-ups, Stretching, and Running at least one mile. They should do this at least 3 to 4 times each week on their own.
However a Cadet that passes the “National Standards” (not just the minimum passing score) will be awarded the PT Ribbon. A cadet that hits the Presidential Fitness Standard will be awarded an “E” appurtenance on their PT Ribbon.
Cadets aspiring to attend intense trainings like NSCC SEAL Training, Special Warfare Combatant Craft Crewman (SWCC) Training, Urban County Insurgency (U-COIN) Training and other similar trainings will have to pass even tougher PRT examinations.
